My Feeling Heart
An arts-based project involving
children and young
people who have
experienced family violence.
Lots of people do not understand how family violence affects children and young people. While it feels like a difficult subject, it is important to know about this societal wide problem. ‘My Feeling Heart’ is an arts-based project that invited children recovering from experiences of family violence to give the general public a glimpse into their feeling hearts through some drawings they made.
A group of children from around Australia worked with their specialist counsellors at ACF to create drawings of their feeling hearts. Animator and designer Isobel Knowles created an animation lifting the children’s drawings off the page in keeping with what the children said about their art works.
Please watch the animation below and scroll down to view the children’s individual drawings:
Want to share some words from your feeling heart with the artists?
Note: We will share your thoughts with the children and young people who created the artworks, and we may use your reflections to further educate and support the community to better understand the impact of family violence on children.
A key goal of this project is to raise awareness about the problem of family violence in our communities through exposure to art made by those with lived experience of it.
The voices of children and young people are often overlooked in the family violence space and yet are important to learn from. Children and young people have expertise in their own lives and those participating in this project generously share their drawings with you to provide some insight into their experiences.
Take a look below at the individual artworks created by children and young people.
We invite you to share your own thoughts and words of hope with the artists in our feedback form above.
